The Oasis
A black ribbon of highway stretches
before me.
Resolute, unyielding, desolate.
I forsake the idea of
conquering it.
I decide to roll with it, ride it out.
The cold steel of
the barriers contain me.
I know it’s futile to reach beyond them.
Still, at times I soar above
them.
Recalling dreams of my youth.
Searching for the one road,
that
leads to one thing.
To one moment in time.
Where love converges - a
mirage.
It dances before my eyes in wavy
lines.
Taunting me always.
Rippling up from the black surface.
Rumbling
in the untouchable distance.
Like heat lightning - it seeks me.
On a long stretch of road, a wind
whistles up behind me.
It catches me up in a torrent.
It warms and soothes
like a summer breeze.
Ahead, I see a pulsating pool of light.
I know it
doesn’t exist but I am transfixed nonetheless.
I step into this
oasis.
You are there too.
For a moment in
time, we flow from each other.
There is instant trust and knowing.
We are
content.
The oasis is warm and comforting.
As the soft glow ebbs
away,
Serenity smothers me like smooth silk.
I get back on the
highway.
